This is a truly unique custom built Lawler trumpet, hand made by Roy Lawler. It has been my main horn for several months, and I love it! It has a dark, yet mellow sound that is very Martin Committee-like - Roy Lawler is famous for having recreated that classic sound with the playing characteristics of modern instruments.
I have preferred this horn to all the Taylors, Eclipses and other instruments I´ve tried while I´ve had it. It is a medium weight horn, and is much more agile than the heavier jazz horns. I am only selling it now because I have another Lawler with specifications that are a little better suited to my playing!
The trumpet has the STS (screw bell) and SLS (briefcase) systems, and comes with 2 detachable bells, one of which is a briefcase bell. The briefcase bell is a #8 bell, and is the one I have been using for jazz combo/solo. The other one is a #6L which is a little larger, and also lighter. It is great when you need a little brighter sound. The detachable bell system works perfectly and is in no way inferior to regular trumpets! It is also a great way to completely change your sound with new bells that can be bought from Roy starting at only $150! The briefcase is a top quality hard case made by Samsonite, which makes it very safe and easy to travel with the trumpet.
The trumpet is from 2003, and has the Getzen valves which are lightning fast and, according to Roy Lawler, the best in the business. I easily prefer them to Bauerfiend and other heavier valves!
The leadpipe is a #1.
ML cyllindrical bore (not step bore like the Lawler C7).
Brushed lacquer finish.
There are no damages to the instrument - no dents or dings. There is only a little lacquer wear on contact points and on the screw bells.
To get this horn today would cost €2400 including taxes, not to mention the wait for the horn with all its custom options to be built. I am asking €1800 for mine.
